According to Wikipedia, mineral Moissanite was discovered by Henri Moissan while examining rock samples from a meteor crater located in Canyon Diablo, Arizona, in 1893. At first, he mistakenly identified the crystals as diamonds, but in 1904 he identified the crystals as silicon carbide. The mineral form of silicon carbide was named 'Moissanite' in honor of Moissan later on in his life.
Moissanite therefore, isn't a diamond as such, but within it's own right, it is a gem of a stone!
The craftsmen creating Moissanite rings, are able to produce a product that is every bit as attractive and 'genuine' as any other precious stone but the difference is, the retail price of the product is so much lower.
The design and production of Moissanite rings and jewellery is so sophisticated, that it would be very difficult to pick it out if lined up with rings that are 4 or 5 times as expensive!
